Disaster planning article earns regional silver award

“Be Prepared: Notes from the Field on Disaster Planning,” an article I wrote for the September 2018 issue of Trends magazine, has won a regional silver award in the annual competition sponsored by the American Society of Business Publication Editors. The winners were announced April 5, 2019.

Trends is a publication of American Animal Hospital Association. Ben Williams is editor and Karie Simpson, managing editor.

The article placed in the Print – How-To category for the Central Region.  More than 1,000 entries were received and more than 100 experienced B2B editors and designers judged the 78 categories of entries.

Articles earn two Azbee awards

Two articles I wrote for Trends magazine have earned 2017 silver and bronze Azbee regional awards!

See the silver honor for “Going to New Heights, Widths, and Depths” and the bronze honor for “Digital Dilemma.”

The Azbees honor the best in business-to-business media, recognizing outstanding work by B2B, trade, association and professional publications. One of the most competitive award programs for trade media, the Azbees highlight editorial, online and design excellence within magazines, newsletters and digital media.

Regional winners were announced at regional banquets across the United States in April and early May of 2017.

Speak Up!’ article wins DWAA honor

My article “Speak Up!” has won its category in the 2017 writing competition of the Dog Writers Association of America (DWAA). It topped the Rescue/Magazine article finalists.

DWAA announced the competition winners at its banquet Feb. 12, 2017, in New York City.

The article, “Speak Up! How the Reporting of Suspected Animal Abuse Saves Lives of Pets and People,” was researched and written for the May 2016 edition of the American Animal Hospital Association’s Trends magazine. Researching the article enabled me to talk with many good people working to prevent and prosecute animal abuse.

Contest winners receive the DWAA Maxwell Medallion, named in honor of the late Maxwell Riddle who co-founded the organization. A panel of judges scored each of the entries to determine the finalists and the winners.
