‘Speak Up!’ article wins DWAA honor

I’m so pleased to announce that my article “Speak Up!” has won its category in the writing competition of the Dog Writers Association of America (DWAA). It topped the Rescue/Magazine article finalists.

DWAA announced the competition winners at its banquet Feb. 12 in New York City.

I wrote “Speak Up! How the Reporting of Suspected Animal Abuse Saves Lives of Pets and People” for the May 2016 edition of the American Animal Hospital Association’s Trends magazine. Researching the article enabled me to talk with many good people working to prevent and prosecute animal abuse.

Contest winners receive the DWAA Maxwell Medallion, named in honor of the late Maxwell Riddle who co-founded the organization. A panel of judges scored each of the entries to determine the finalists and the winners.
